The famous group contest at the Gran Teatro Falla began last Saturday, January 18, with the children's and youth categories. And this same Monday, the 20th, the category of COAC 2020 adults. A total of 158 groups will step on the Falla boards in the 18 sessions that will be held until February 6, and that already hang the 'No tickets' sign. And it is that the COAC preliminaries tickets, which went on sale simultaneously on the Internet and at the box office, were mostly sold out in the first few hours. Now we are waiting for them to go on sale tickets for quarterfinals and semifinals. We also remind you that tickets for the Grand Final on February 21 can only be purchased by participating in the previous draw.

This is the most important carnival group contest in Spain, the prelude to the popular festival that will be held later in the street, and which has recently been recognized as an Asset of Cultural Interest. A contest that receives groups of points as far away as Barcelona, ​​and in this edition even from Uruguay.

The Carnival is not only the Falla… the best is the street

The true carnival of Cádiz is lived in the street. Where many of the groups that participate in the contest and numerous groups called "illegal" fill the corners of the old town of Cádiz with their couplets and ballads. The most relevant dates of the Cádiz Carnival 2020

• January 18 and 19: COAC 2020 begins with the semifinals of the quarry, starting at 12:00 p.m. for children and starting at 6:00 p.m. for youth.
• January 20: Beginning of the Official Contest of Groups in the category of adults. The 18 preliminary performances are held from January 20 to February 6 starting at 8:00 p.m.
• February 7th: Final in children's category (18:00 hours)
• February 8th: Final in the youth category (6:00 p.m.). This day also begins the gastronomic events related to the Carnival with the celebration of the Pestiñada de la Peña Los Dedócratas in the Plaza de San Francisco.
• February 9: Eriza It is an event that the Casa de Extremadura (Plaza de Argüelles) in Cádiz prepares each year. More than 180 kilos of bread and 30 kilos of products from the region are used for its preparation.
• February 9 to 15: COAC 2020 quarterfinals in adults

• February 16th: oyster in San Antonio and mussel in the rock La Perla de Cádiz.
• February 16 to 19: Semifinals of the COAC 2020 in adults
• Thursday February 20: Inauguration of the extraordinary and final lighting of the Romanceros Contest.
• Friday, 21st of February: Grand Final of the Gran Teatro Falla Group Contest in the adult category. An appointment that will begin with the performance, as a tribute, of the anthologies of Juan Carlos Aragón and Manolo Santander.
• Saturday February 22: Carnival Saturday, with the start of the street party. Proclamation of the Carnival of Cádiz 2020 by the Cádiz-born cantaor David Palomar, in the Plaza de San Antonio.
• Sunday February 23: Choir Sunday and celebration of the Magna Parade.
• Monday February 24: Choir Monday, local holiday. Carousel of choirs, performances in tablaos and through the streets and corners of the historic center of Cádiz.
• Tuesday, February 25: Carnival Tuesday, with the Burning of the God Momo and the proclamation of Manolín Santander as Great Momo, ballads in El Pópulo and performances in different parts of the city.
• Wednesday, February 26: Circuits of groups, performances in different parts of the city and street carousel in the neighborhood of El Pópulo, next to the Cathedral.
• Thursday February 27: Circuits of groups, street carousel in El Pópulo and ballads in El Mentidero.
• Friday February 28: Coinciding with the Day of Andalusia, there will be the Loreto choir carousel, the final of the La Viña Popourrís Contest, the performance of the finalists of the Unicaja contest in San Agustín and concerts in San Antonio, among other events.
• Saturday February 29: The second Saturday of Carnival will feature the carousel of choirs in La Viña, the Cabalgata del Humor or the carousel of choirs on the Paseo Marítimo, in addition to the concert of an artist or group yet to be determined in San Antonio.
• Sunday March 1: Piñata Sunday, with a carousel of choirs, gastronomic events and the burning of the Witch Piti and a fireworks display to end the party until 2021.
