Are you craving a bit of beach and sea, right? The good weather invites us to enjoy the coastline of the Iberian Peninsula and explore the beaches and coves of the immense Atlantic Ocean or the emblematic Mediterranean Sea. In this case, we are going to stay with the second. Our motorhome heads for the southeast of Spain to make a route along the coast of Murcia, also known as Costa Cálida.
Along its 250 kilometres, bathed by crystal clear waters, we find beautiful landscapes and places of interest that we are going to present to you in this article so that you can plan your own itinerary. Of course, there will also be no shortage of recommendations for areas in the area to spend the night with your motorhome, caravan, camper or minivan.
We start the route along the coast of Murcia in the Cuatro Calas
To the south of the Region of Murcia, very close to the border with the province of Almería, we find the Cuatro Calas in the surroundings of the town of Águilas. The coves of Calarreona, Carolina, Cocedores and Higuerica form a set with impressive geological forms. You can visit them all through an itinerary in the middle of nature that will give you an unforgettable day.
You can reach the Cuatro Calas from the Camping la Quinta Bella. The charm of this space lies in its location, one hundred percent rural, and the relaxation that is felt there. From there you can also reach the virgin coves located between Cabo Cope and Puntas de Calnegre. Without a doubt, a natural paradise that you must visit yes or yes.
Puerto de Mazarrón and the charms of the Enchanted City of Bolnuevo
Mazarrón is one of the most famous coastal towns on the coast of Murcia, so it could not be missing from our route. In addition to the numerous beaches that are spread throughout the entire Mazarrón coastline, you also have the opportunity to discover the history of the town thanks to the Archaeological Museum or the Interpretation Center of the Phoenician Ship. Moreover, in front of the beach of La Isla there are two boats from the Phoenician era that have become main references in underwater archeology and shipbuilding, as they are the oldest boats that have been located in the Mediterranean. The extraction is currently being planned for better conservation and exhibition as a cultural jewel of the region.
As regards natural monuments, the Enchanted City in Bolnuevo, also known as Las Gredas. The erosion caused by weather conditions has created a set of impossible and fascinating geological forms.
All these places of interest will be very close from the Camper Mazarrón area.
Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñoso and Roldán, an essential area on the coast of Murcia
This natural space is one of the most important in the ecological field, being declared a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) due to the richness of this type of fauna. In addition, it also includes small natural coves with crystal clear waters where you can take a quiet swim. Among them we highlight El Portús or Fatares.
On the other hand, during this stop on our route along the coast of Murcia we must pay attention to the old military activity. Cabo Tiñoso includes two batteries known as «Castillitos» (with a very medieval look) and «The Jorel".
To get to this natural enclave you have three options:
Cartagena, the imprint of the Punic and Roman legacy
From these three areas you are also close to the historic city of Cartagena, founded by the Carthaginians and conquered by the Romans in one of the most important battles of the Second Punic War. We can still find remains of the ancient punic wall, preserved in very good condition. Other places of historical interest are the Underwater Archeology Museum (ARQUA), the imposing Roman Theatre or the Forum Quarter.
From Cabo de Palos to La Manga
We continue to climb north on our route along the coast of Murcia until you reach Cabo de Palos, one of the richest areas in aquatic flora and fauna. This circumstance and the clarity of the sea are two claims for lovers of diving and snorkeling. How could it be otherwise on the Costa Cálida, the surroundings of the Cabo de Palos It has several coves in which to immerse yourself or lie under the sun.
Nearby are the 24 kilometers that form the Manga beaches. They are bathed by the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean and, without a doubt, they are the most touristic in Murcia.
Both Cabo de Palos and La Manga are within your reach if you book your place at the Los Alcázares Motorhome Area or the Camper Park La Ribera.
We finish the route along the coast of Murcia in the Salinas and Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar
Last stop on the Costa Cálida de Murcia, also accessible from the two previous spaces. The Regional Park of the Salinas and Arenales of San Pedro del Pinatar It is another point in the middle of nature where colorful salt flats, striking birds such as flamingos and virgin beaches are combined.
As you can see, the Murcian coastline has all kinds of beaches, history and nature to explore from south to north or north to south. It's up to you! What is clear is that in AREA RV you have the closest spaces to all of them.
